Our Story

Matt, co-founder of KoehnDesign, brings over 20 years of experience in development and custom builds. 

A graduate of the University of Calgary with a Bachelor’s degree in Science, he grew up immersed in the industry, spending time on construction sites alongside his father. His career path led him through finance, where he worked with developers to build software and financial performance models for large multi-family projects. This experience gave him deep expertise in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic business optimization. 

Today, Matt combines that strong business foundation with his industry knowledge to play a pivotal role in the execution of construction, furniture, and e-commerce for the KoehnDesign team.

With over 24 years of experience in the industry, Vito began his career in finish carpentry and custom cabinet building. He completed his four-year apprenticeship at SAIT, earning his Journeyman Carpentry Certificate, and went on to build numerous custom acreage homes and infills throughout the city.

Known for his strong communication, organization, and leadership skills, Vito takes pride in being onsite daily—ensuring every detail meets the highest standard. His hands-on experience and deep understanding of both new builds and infill projects continue to be a valuable asset to every client and trade partner he works with.

Michelle has been working in the Interior Design industry for a number of years after attending Mount Royal University Interior Decorating program and SAIT’s Architectural Technology. 

She brings to the team her knowledge and experience in executing both commercial/residential projects, from drawings to final furnishings. She’s worked closely with the trades, vendors and clients effectively communicating the process to create beautifully curated spaces.  With a previous career in the Legal community, she articulates an attention to detail and strong organizational skill to every project.  

She also serves as Alberta’s Regional Director of the Designers and Decorators Association of Canada (DDA) wherein she connects the design community together for product knowledge sessions, keeping up to date on the latest trends, regulations and products!

Having grown up overseas in Dubai, Madi was exposed to diverse cultures and countless forms of art through her travels, sparking a lifelong appreciation for creativity in all its expressions. 

With particular passions for fashion, interiors, and visual design, she pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Business Management at the University of Alberta, graduating in June 2024. Her studies reignited a long-held love for interior design, leading her to enroll in the Interior Design Certificate program at the University of Calgary, from which she graduated in 2025 with high honors. With a solid foundation in business and marketing, Madi has been instrumental in shaping the brand identity of KoehnDesign while actively deepening her expertise in the interior design field.
